Position Summary:
The Area Accounting Manager is responsible to oversee accounting, finance and administrative staff and processes at various Operating Companies (OpCo's, our distribution centers) within the Vistar segment. In this case, the Area Accounting Manager supports Small Parcel/Green Rabbit locations. The position works closely with managers and leadership throughout OpCo's as well as Corporate Vistar on a regular basis to discuss, understand and review financial performance and results for the OpCo's in their assigned area. The Area Accounting Manager is responsible to interpret, evaluate and explain financial material within the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement, Balance Sheet (B/S) and other various financial reports. The position will also prepare and submit analytics and reports to various levels of management as required by the business. The Area Accounting Manager reports directly to the Sr. Director of Finance.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Oversees Accounting and Finance results for multiple OpCo's within designated area, crossing over multiple States and jurisdictions. Size and scope is dependent on the area and subject to change.
  • Manages associates to include, but not limited to, staffing, training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution.
  • Partners with General Ledger Accounting and Internal Audit to ensure OpCo Accounting and Finance processes and related transactions adhere to financial policies and internal controls for completeness and accuracy. Including, but not limited to, inventory shrink, AP debits, receipts not invoiced (RNI), payroll, expense accruals, etc.
  • Oversees month-end analysis, review, reporting and financial results for OpCo's within the designated area.
  • Reviews P&L, B/S and other various financial reports for accuracy and completeness, with oversight to journal entries and reconciliations impacting the OpCo's within the designated area.
  • Partners with Financial Planning and Analysis on the development of annual budgets and monthly forecasts; adding insight and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Administers meetings and discussions with various levels of staff from team discussions and training, cross functional dept coordination, to executive review with OpCo/Regional Presidents and Corporate Management as required.
  • Works to ensure that OpCo's and Vistar are Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliant.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
7+ years of General Ledger, Financial Accounting, Financial Operations experience
5+ years of people management experience

Preferred qualifications:

Master's Degree/MBA
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
10+ years required experience
Food distribution/closely related industry experience
